EuroMIT 2026, the next international congress dedicated to mitochondrial diseases, will take place in Angers from 30 May to 4 June 2026. Just a few days before it begins, here are the main highlights of the programme.
Ahead of EuroMIT 2026, the international congress dedicated to mitochondrial diseases, a day will be devoted to young researchers. The official opening of the congress will then be given by Patrick Chinnery from the University of Cambridge, a physician and researcher specializing in mitochondrial diseases. This will be followed by eight scientific sessions on the structure, functions and dysfunctions of mitochondria, technological innovations for studying them, and therapeutic developments.

A congress that will also meet the expectations of patients
Finally, exchanges between physicians, researchers and patients/patient associations — in compliance with LEEM/EFPIA ethical rules — will be at the heart of the final half-day. Led by Amel Karaa from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston (United States), and Vincent Procaccio, Professor of Genetics and lead of the NeuroMitOmics (NeMO) research axis at Angers University Hospital, the first session aims to address the expectations expressed by patients and associations in a survey conducted by the EuroMIT 2026 organizers.
Four themes will be covered: navigating the clinical heterogeneity of primary mitochondrial diseases; current management of a patient with primary mitochondrial myopathy; PRIOR: a regional platform for people living with a rare disease; and research and development in mitochondrial diseases. Some of these topics will be addressed jointly with patient associations that are members of MitoGether. Two parallel sessions will then be devoted to hereditary optic neuropathies and mitochondrial syndromes.
Physicians, researchers, patient associations, industry representatives: we look forward to welcoming you to EuroMIT 2026!
EuroMIT 2026
EuroMIT 2026 is supported by the University of Angers, the MitoVasc laboratory, the Angers University Hospital and the European scientific society E-MIT.
It is being led by Guy Lenaers, head of MitoVasc, Timothy Wai, head of the Mitochondrial Biology Laboratory at the Pasteur Institute, and Vincent Procaccio, professor of genetics and leader of the NeuroMitOmics (NeMO) research programme at Angers University Hospital.
EuroMIT 2026 is supported in particular by AFM-Téléthon and AMMi, both members of MitoGether.
